On September 8, 2022, the Archdiocese of San Fernando will commemorate the 66th anniversary of the canonical coronation of its principal patroness, the Virgen de los Remedios.
This year’s celebration, with the theme Pamaglacbe abe-abe, Indung Maria Cayantabe, Calam ning Dios iyang idake caring sablang milelele, focuses on the practice of Synodality, in which the local phase of the Synod of it took place this year.
“The Cruzada, particularly the lamak, appears to be the most vivid image that articulates the Archdiocese’s experience of synodality, with the Virgin bringing her Son on a journey of reaching out and listening to the pleas and cries of the people, especially the poor, in order to make an effective spiritual and effective response to their needs.” (Archdiocese of San Fernando, Regional Process of Synod on Synodality, Synthesis Report)
The celebration calls for the local church’s continued openness to listen (mákiramdam) feel with, and accompany people on their journey to God as she focuses her attention on those who have been left behind on her journey. People of all colors, expressions and creeds are included, as are clergy and laity, rich and poor.
The celebrations this year will be held at the Vicariate of St. Augustine of Hippo, and the canonical coronation will be reenacted in Lubao, the birthplace of Christianity in our province. Here, 450 years ago, the first seeds of faith were planted and received by our Kapampangan ancestors.
We are grateful to the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit for bringing Christianity to our province as we continue to develop and grow in our faith. We reaffirm our dedication to the task of proclaiming the Lord’s love and mercy through Mary, the first Disciple, the first follower and pilgrim, and thus the perfect model of genuine Christian discipleship.
