The Archdiocese of San Fernando’s newest contribution to the celebration of the 500th year of Christianity in the Philippines is the official Kapampangan translation of the mission song “We Give Our Yes.”
The translated song, entitled “Tángû Kami!”, started from the initiative of the MaGnifiCat Seminary choir of the Mother of Good Counsel Seminary.
“We were rehearsing the official mission song when our choir master Mr. Joseph Erwin Limpin came up with the idea of translating it to Kapampangan”, said Gian Sagum, a member of the group.
Sagum, a 4th year Theology student of the said seminary, made the translation. Few days later, permission from the Archdiocese of Manila was asked for the official usage of the song, while the translated lyrics underwent examination from the Archdiocesan Liturgical Commission. The Kapampangan translation gained the approval of the commission and the archbishop shortly after.
“We wish to extend our gratitude to Msgr. Ricardo Serrano for taking time to check the translation, and to our Archbishop Florentino Lavarias for the approval and permission to release it for our local church,” the seminarians said.
Tángû Kami was translated from the song “We Give Our Yes”, which was composed by Rev. Fr. Carlo Magno Marcelo from the Archdiocese of Manila. Originally commissioned during the 2015 National Mission Conference, the composition is the official song for the historic 500th anniversary of the arrival of Christianity in the country.
Meanwhile, the media was produced with the help of the Archdiocesan Commission on Social Communication (ACSC). “In this age where majority of our faithful are in their social media, it’s best to create content that instantly connects to them,” said Fr. Al Manacmul, III, Director of the commission.
Tángû Kami will be launched on Tuesday, March 16, at 8PM Philippine Time. The lyric video, directed by Nigel Ian Laxamana, will premiere on the Archdiocese of San Fernando’s official Facebook and Youtube pages.
