TO: HIS EXCELLENCY, THE REVEREND MEMBERS OF THE CLERGY, MEN AND WOMEN RELIGIOUS, AND THE LAITY OF THE ARCHDIOCESE OF SAN FERNANDO, PAMPANGA
RE: Liturgical Guidelines for Ash Wednesday (17 February 2021)
Greetings of Grace and Peace!
We are respectfully forwarding to your Reverences the attached liturgical guidelines for Ash Wednesday on 17 February 2021 during the pandemic. We hereby issue this liturgical directive to your Reverences for our compliance. The Congregation for Divine Worship and Discipline of the Sacraments sent the communication last 12 January 2021 directing priests to say the formula for distributing the ashes ¬once to everyone present, rather than to each person.
1. The priest addresses all those present and only once says the formula as it appears in the Roman Missal:
a. “Repent, and believe in the Gospel.” Or “Turn away from sin and be faithful to the Gospel.”
b. The other formulary may also be used: “Remember you are dust, and to dust you shall return.”
2. The priest then cleanses his hands, puts on a face mask (face shield) and distributes the ashes to those who come to him or, if appropriate, he goes to their places.
3. The priest takes the ashes and sprinkles them on the head of each one without saying anything.
For the Rite of Blessing of Palms to Ashes and the Liturgy of the Word with Imposition of Ashes, please refer to this link: bit.ly/AshWednesday2021. Thank you for the kind attention and compliance to these guidelines. Let us continuously pray the Oratio Imperata to our Santo Cristo del Perdon y Caridad through the intercession of our Virgen de los Remedios, ing Indu ning Kapaldanan! Praying with you for the safety and protection of all the faithful, I remain
One with you as a servant to the servants of the Gospel,
