The Lord is the primary source of a vocation. His love that is situated in the very heart of the human person resonates through his whole personhood. This resonation urges the person to act following this love through his vocation. He is not alone in traversing the path to the fullness of his vocation. The Lord, who is the primary source of vocation, is always with him. Moreover, he has his co-journeyers who are also traversing the path to the fullness of their vocation. The personal and communal aspect of a vocation highlights the dynamism and intimacy of the vocation.
In 2015, the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of the Philippines declared it the year of religious and consecrated persons in preparation for the 500 years of Christianity in the country. The Roman Catholic Archdiocese of San Fernando, through Rev. Fr. Aljim Tuazon, then the archdiocesan vocation director, responded by organizing the first Vocation Jamboree on November 28, 2015, to help young individuals discern about religious life. The event showcased various religious congregations and their ways of life.
The second Vocation Jamboree, named “Vocare,” took place on November 26, 2016, emphasizing the Latin word “Vocare,” meaning to call. Subsequent Vocare events occurred in 2017 and following years, typically in November, aiming to encourage young men to consider seminary entrance exams held in January. In 2020 and 2021, Vocare was not held due to the pandemic. However, it resumed in 2023 and was celebrated on February 25, which was a month before the rescheduled entrance exams in March.
VOCARE 2024 will take place on 17 February 2024 at the Mother of Good Counsel Seminary. This is an annual archdiocesan event that aims to present to young people the different charisms, apostolates, and lives of the various religious orders for them to pray, discern, and respond generously to the call of the Lord in the form of the ordained ministry and consecrated life.
Each parish/institution is encouraged to send at least 10-15 delegates for this event. There is no registration fee and snacks will be provided for the delegates during the event. However, the delegates are to bring their lunch. A meeting of the Vocation Committees of the respective parishes of the archdiocese will be held on the said date and event. Thus, the presidents of the respective Parish Vocation Committee (PVC) of each parish or any representative from the PVC are encouraged to come. A solidarity contribution of ₱3,000.00 per parish will be collected in assistance for the expenses of the event.
