Dalo Balen 2021
In celebration of the 500th year of Christianity in the Philippines, the Archdiocese initiates Dalo Balen (town-visit), where the canonically-crowned image of the Virgen de los Remedios, together with the Sto. Cristo del Perdon Y Caridad, and San José, visits the mother parish of each town in Pampanga.
History
After the Second World War, Pampanga was afflicted by growing ideologies of Socialism and Communism. Conflicts took place between the upper and lower class, resulting into a political and social unrest in the region.
In attempt to ease out the pressing problems of the province, Most Rev. César María Guerrero, the first Bishop of the then newly created Diocese of San Fernando, created the Cruzada de Penitencia Y Caridad.
The crusade was formally established during a meeting held on the third Sunday of February 1952 at the San Guillermo Parish in Bacolor, Pampanga, with Rev. Fr. Diosdado Victorio as the director.
The image of the Lady of Remedies (Virgen de los Remedios) was chosen to accompany the Cruzada in the province. Bishop Guerrero requested the image of the Virgen de los Remedios in the Parish of Baliti in San Fernando, to be used for the new apostolate.
The crusade officially started on May 1, 1952, at the San Miguel Arcangel Parish in Masantol, Pampanga. The Cruzada then visited all the other parishes in Pampanga.
Afterwhich, the people of Brgy. Baliti requested the image to be brought back to its home parish.
Thus, Bishop Guerrero commissioned Victoriano Siongco, a santero artist, to carve out an image of the Virgen for the use of the Crusade. This image then was requested to be canonically-crowned by the bishop and in 1956, Pope Pius XII issued a Papal Bull granting its canonical coronation.
